The first half of the presentation discussed low birth weight and infant mortality in African Americans. The second half discussed how immigrants to this country come with better health and within a generation of becoming “Americanized” their health patterns deteriorate.

Turnout for the kickoff meeting exceeded the expectations of the sponsors. The room was filled with people interested in learning more about the documentary series. There were local organizations represented in the foyer allowing for some networking and sharing of information prior to the start of the meeting. Kathleen Crookham, Chairperson of the Merced County Board of Supervisors welcomed and thanked the attendees for their participation. After the meeting, there was an excitement about the series and the opportunities for our community to take action. If you attended, please add your comments.
